| STEP 23: Leaving the zip open, stitch the top of the of the purse closed with a 1/4 inch seam, reinforcing across the zip. Trim the zip in line with the panel and zigzag the raw edge. | STEP 24: Turn the purse in the right way, pushing the corners out carefully | ||||||

This small pencil case was made with the same 7 x 5 inch panel, but by binding the long edges (two 7 inches pieces of binding) instead of the short, and folding the purse along the long axis. These purses can be made to any size and shape, to work out what size panel to make, you must be able to trim the panel to double the width of, and 1/2 an inch longer than, the finished purse. Always use a nylon zip at least 2 inches longer than your finished purse. Nylon zips can be stitched through (unlike metal) and, without the extra length, you will find it almost impossible to stitch the second side of the panel to the zip. |
